We at the Stanford Marsh Group would like to say a huge “thank you” to all who came and celebrated our 50th Anniversary at the Belfry Golf Course.
Arriving at the Belfry the conditions were challenging with a strong breeze adding extra nerves on the 1st Tee of the famous Brabazon Course. After a quick team photos all 6 teams tee’d off to face the 7000 yard Ryder Cup Venue (with varying levels of success!!)
After the first 3 holes it was clear to see why The Brabazon has held the Ryder Cup a record 4 times. Beautifully manicured fairways and crisp greens, this truly showed how good the pros are with several of our mere mortal putts ending further away than where they started!
Soon enough everyone settled into the groove and the odd Par and Birdie made their way onto the score cards. Congratulations to Paul Whitelock for winning the longest Drive with a Tee shot well over 300yrds on the 16th hole and to Martin Cooksey for a fine shot on the 7th to win closest to the pin, hitting the ball within 5ft of the hole.
Just after the turn, Seve’s 10th hole challenge awaited everyone. Could anyone replicate that famous shot Seve made at the Ryder Cup in 1985? Going for the green on the daunting par 4 with water all around was achieved by a select few who won a free round at the PGA Course, well done!!
As the round came to a close and the stableford points became ever more important the 18th hole saw few precious points gained. The 18th at the Brabazon Belfry is one of the finest settings to finish a round of golf with the beautiful 19th waiting for everyone!
The scores were counted over a cold pint while the teams enjoyed a fine buffet meal in the Ryder Room overlooking the 18th Green, full of golfing history.
Congratulations go to ‘team Ricoh’ (Ryan, Matt, Chris & Adrian) who came first with a score of 80 points.
A great day of golf enjoyed alround.
